abstarct art post 13

This painting reflects my choice to paint instead of draw, which made the project a lot more enjoyable for me. I’m not very strong at drawing, so using paint felt easier and less stressful. It gave me more freedom to just go with my ideas instead of worrying about making everything look perfect. The piece is abstract, which I liked because it lets you be creative without having to follow strict rules. I didn’t have to make something realistic I could just put colors and shapes down and see what worked. I used bright colors like pink and green with a lot of black on top, which makes everything stand out. The paint is also pretty thick in some spots, which adds to the overall look and makes it feel more interesting.I also wasn’t in class the week we worked on this, so I did it at home. I got to experiment more and just enjoy the process.Overall, this has been one of my favorite projects I’ve done in a while. It was fun, different, and way more relaxed than drawing. I liked being able to j...

POST #17 – READING – DISCUSSION - EXPLAINED: MODERN ART VS POSTMODERN ART

Image
One thing I learned from the reading was that although that modern art was exploring new thoughts, they also still valued coherence and intended to have their art have deeper meaning. Even though they wanted to move away from tradition they still held that art should have a purpose. Something else was that postmodern art branched from modern art in the way that it doesn’t have one set style, it can combine things. It wants to focus on deconstruction rather than one sense of understanding. I also found that modern art was serious and wanted to find truth and postmodern art can be more playful or trying to cause chaos. Another difference was that postmodern artists use a lot of appropriation in their art. Modern artists tried to come up with things on their own, but postmodern artist would take images from other sources and use them.   discussion question  In the context of Fluxus, John Cage conceptualized art, focusing on the idea that art is a mental concept rather than a craf...

TITLE – POST #16 – LECTURE – EXPERIMENTAL FILM - FLUXUS

Image
Concepts behind  experimental film  began with artists pushing away from traditional cinematic practice and focusing more on concepts. Photography was seen in  rayographs  by  Manray , which did not require a camera and  Rotoreliefs  by  Marcel Duchamp  which emphasized movement and illusion. Along with  Hans Richter , these artists were integral to forming the basis of what would become experimental film with their focus on abstractions. With the  invention of television , through mechanical television by  John Logie Baird  and electronic television by  Philo Farnsworth , audiences were exposed to new technology that would influence how we viewed moving images.  Postmodern Art  came about with a large emphasis on the mixing of concepts. This included  Characteristics of Postmodernism  such as pluralism, appropriation, as well as concepts like  Simulacra  by  Jean Baudrillard , which...

TITLE – POST #15 – READING - DISCUSSION – ARSON AND MANSFIELD MODERN ART EXCERPTS

Image
Three things that stuck out to me from this reading are how modern art began to rebel against classic thoughts and incorporated more progressive ideas. Artists began to care less about making something aesthetically pleasing and more about what their piece stood for. Another takeaway from the reading is how artists tried to go against what people thought was fine art by using mundane or basic items to create art. One thing I noticed from reading this was how some modern art can be very perplexing, but I think that's the entire point of it to make you question what you're look at. It also discusses how there began to be variations of style as artists broke more rules and experimented. The last thing I noticed was how modern art reflects the era that it's being created in, depicting changes in social culture and new ways of thinking.   DISCUSSION QUESTION What do you think? Is “The Fountain” art? Why? I think The Fountain is art because it makes people question what art reall...

TITLE – POST #14 – LECTURE – FUTURISM - FLUXUS

Image
The movements lecture began with  Dadaism and Fluxus , which expressed how movements in art began to become non-traditional and focus more on aspects such as motion, ideas, and daily life. With  Futurism , began the inspiration to move, create energy, and focus on things such as machine-like aspects. Artists such as  Marinetti/Mussolini  wanted to show speed, power, and technology.  Characteristics of Futurism  included emphasis on motion. Artists such as  Boccioni  used aspects of motion in his paintings. In  Continuity in Space  you can see how Boccioni uses repetition to create a movement like quality.  Giacomo Balla  portrayed similar ideas through his painting  Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash  by using repeated forms of things.  Russolo  used his understanding of Futurism to use instruments called  Intonarumori/ noise-intoners . Next came  Rayonnism , which expressed light and movement through ar...

TITLE – POST 11 – STOP MOTION MOVIE –5 PICTURES THAT DOCUMENT YOUR PROCESS

Image
PFtOcFDP07Y   I enjoyed the process of making the stop motion video and thought it was a fun experience overall. It was simple to understand and easy to follow once I got started which made it more enjoyable. I liked being able to create something step by step and then see it all come together at the end. It felt good watching the final result after putting it together and seeing how each picture turned into motion. I also liked how it didn’t feel too stressful compared to other projects and I could just focus on being creative. It was nice having something hands on instead of just writing or studying. Overall it was a good experience and I would definitely do it again because it was fun simple and something different from what we usually do in class. discussion question  Describe a Genre Painting that you could paint on everyday life today? A genre painting I could make today would show a group of students sitting at a table working on school. Some would be on laptops and oth...
