TITLE – POST #15 – READING - DISCUSSION – ARSON AND MANSFIELD MODERN ART EXCERPTS
Three things that stuck out to me from this reading are how modern art began to rebel against classic thoughts and incorporated more progressive ideas. Artists began to care less about making something aesthetically pleasing and more about what their piece stood for. Another takeaway from the reading is how artists tried to go against what people thought was fine art by using mundane or basic items to create art. One thing I noticed from reading this was how some modern art can be very perplexing, but I think that's the entire point of it to make you question what you're look at. It also discusses how there began to be variations of style as artists broke more rules and experimented. The last thing I noticed was how modern art reflects the era that it's being created in, depicting changes in social culture and new ways of thinking.
DISCUSSION QUESTION
What do you think? Is “The Fountain” art? Why?
I think The Fountain is art because it makes people question what art really is. It’s not about how it looks, but more about the idea behind it. It shows that art can be something simple and still have meaning. At first it might seem strange since it’s just a urinal. But it changed the way people think about art and opened new ideas.
